Very few great leaders are born – most need to learn and develop the required skills and competencies. They also need to learn how and when to deploy them along the way in goal-setting and motivating their teams to deliver success.
Great leaders steer businesses and achieve success by optimising resources. Equally importantly, in an ever-changing world, they also have to recognise when they require additional firepower and need to invest in people, processes and technology.
Leadership can be a balancing act. It can also be a very lonely place.
In our experience whilst business leaders may feel lonely, they are very rarely alone in the challenges they are facing. Their problems may seem unique in a moment of time, but in fact there are other CEOs all around the world that are facing identical challenges.
Having worked with CEOs and senior leaders in literally hundreds of businesses throughout the English-speaking world we appreciate the fact that businesses often exists in a series of parallel universes. From experience we know that what works for one business, no matter what the sector, generally works for others.
Let’s be honest, there is so much for CEOs to think about that they can end up taking their eyes off the prize and losing focus of their real sense of purpose. For us every truly great leader leads with his or her heart and a true vision of what is needed and what is possible.
Chief Executive Officers are there to make decisions and execute them. In our experience, the more a CEO leads with his or her heart with a sense of passion, the more likely a plan is to secure buy-in and succeed.
In large part great leadership is about introspection and self-realisation. CEOs need to question themselves as much (if not more) than they question the trusted people around them. Without clarity of their own opinions, it is hard to communicate clearly to a wider team.
To this end every CEO needs a coach. This should not be somebody invested in the business – it needs to be somebody dispassionate about the business who is invested in the CEO. A person with whom the CEO can share their introspection and uncertainties, and unravel and identify the possible courses of action and discuss their potential outcomes.
The Simpleship Method was specifically developed to help CEOs resolve the blocks, barriers and uncertainties that often obscure the best way to move a business forward.
We are very flexible about our coaching engagements – coaching is all about you, not about us. If you are interested in discussing how we could be part of a more fulfilling corporate journey then please get in touch.
